The Soviet Army was at its last breath when it captured Berlin. Most of the supplies they had by then - from tin cans with meat to rifle ammo and buttons on their Soviet uniforms - were coming from the Americans.

Churchill even explored the chance of attacking the Soviet army after the VE day - and his own generals gave him a chance for an outright success at 50% (his generals were known to be hugely pessimistic and gave the D-Day landings 40% chance of success).
